Hollywood, CA. I had the opportunity to direct Sister Bernadette Runs the Light for the Hollywood Fringe Festival. It was a project that was especially meaningful because Indiana Wilson (Indy) and I go back to our Pepperdine days, where we were both in the Pepperdine Improv Troupe (PIT). We’d spent a lot of time performing and creating together, so we already had a good shorthand.

The show is about a nun who decides to try stand-up comedy at an open mic, but it’s really about someone trying to figure out who she is. My job was to help shape the story, find the pacing, and help her make it really funny. Indy’s a great performer, so working with her ideas was awesome!
Like most Fringe shows, everyone was pitching in. In addition to directing, I worked through the blocking, lighting, and sound cues, coordinated the technical rehearsals, and, one time, even called the show during the performances. With a solo show, there isn’t much room for error. The technical side has to be seamless so the audience stays with the actor.
One of my favorite parts of the process was working with Indy again. Because of our improv background together, we weren’t afraid to throw out ideas, change things in rehearsal, or keep working a moment until it felt right. It reminded me how much I enjoy developing new work and being part of the process that takes a show from an idea to a live audience.
The show is at
The Broadwater (Studio), 1078 Lillian Way, Los Angeles, CA 90038,
The final performance is Sunday, June 28, 2026, 8:00 PM, but it’s SOLD OUT! How awesome is that? Go Indy!
